SECOND SKY FESTIVAL TO RETURN IN 2020
One of the most dynamic artists in the electronic genre right now, PORTER ROBINSON can now add event producer to his remarkable list of accomplishments. On Saturday, June 15 and Sunday 16, 2019, Robinson launched his inaugural SECOND SKY FESTIVAL to great success.
Over 30,000 fans made their way to Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland, CA over the two days to take in performances by international artists specially curated by Robinson. The sold-out event featured on both days Madeon (DJ set), Cashmere Cat, Kero Kero Bonito, Chrome Sparks, Anamanaguchi, Wednesday Campanella, and Nina Las Vegas. G Jones made appearance on the Saturday.
Robinson’s longtime friend Skrillex generated a special festival moment as the special surprise guest on the Sunday, revealing himself out of the festival mascot Pataro. The pinnacle of each day was Porter Robinson’s Second Sky headlining performance where he marked the return of his groundbreaking “Worlds Live show for it’s only 2019 appearance.
The Saturday, June 15 show was live streamed in partnership with Twitch Music, with a repeat airing. Over 1.6 million fans around the globe tuned in to watch Robinson’s “Worlds Live” set and others.
The event also raised over $154,000 for the Robinson-Malawi Fund. In 2016, Robinson’s 17-year-old brother Mark was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma, an aggressive, fast growing cancer. After intensive treatment at the University of North Carolina Hospital from his doctors and the rest of their staff, Mark was eventually cure and is now thriving. To give back, Porter started the fund to help children with this same condition in the country of Malawi. In the united States, Burkitt lymphoma is very rare and more than 90% of children survive. In Malawi, where it is the most common childhood cancer, the survival rate can be as low as 29%. Dr. Kate Westmoreland, one of Mark’s doctors, leads the pediatric cancer program there called UNC Project Malawi. For more information, log on to: www.robinsonmalawifund.org.

Critical praise for Porter Robinson’s Second Sky Festival in the media:
“When was the last time you saw the headliner at a major festival play the first set of the day? Such was the novelty of Porter Robinson opening his own Second Sky Festival under his alias Virtual Self. ‘Hey, everyone, welcome to Second Sky!’ he told the still-forming noontime crowd at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, a small plot of land on the Port of Oakland outskirts with a terrific, albeit foggy, view of San Francisco Bay. ‘The main reason I’m doing this is because there’s a ton of amazing artists I want to share with you.’ June 15-16 marked the inaugural edition of Second Sky, the festival Robinson founded in partnership with Goldenvoice… Tickets for the festival sold out in less than an hour, prompting the team to add a second date with the same performers (minus G Jones, who was replaced on June 16 with an unannounced “special guest.”)
Both days capped out at 15,000 attendees each.” — Billboard
“As artist-curated festivals become an increasingly common part of the business, Porter Robinson’s inaugural Second Sky Festival, done in partnership with Goldenvoice, delighted some 30,000 fans in Oakland, Calif., June 15-16. The event is already promising a return in 2020.” — Pollstar
“Robinson is regarded not just as a stellar performer, but as the creator of one of American dance music’s benchmark cultural experiences.” — Mixmag
“Madeon and Porter Robinson reunited at the latter’s own Second Sky Music Festival this weekend and it was absolutely glorious. We honestly can’t think of a better time or place for the two masterful producers to come together once again for a rare performance like this one.” — YourEDM
“As someone who doesn’t know a whole lot about EDM, Porter Robinson’s Second Sky Festival at Oakland’s Middle Harbor Shoreline Park was a great gateway for those unfamiliar with the genre. 10 acts took the stage throughout the day, most new to me except with the special guest showed up and turned out to be Skrillex. The crowd went crazy… The main event and host Porter Robinson had a great set in which his music flowed with the on-screen visuals that included Japanese-inspired animation and imagery of fictional worlds. During the set, he mentioned that he likes to create worlds through his music and the accompanying visual arts on screen. That really drew me in, as both elements made it feel as though a story was being told through his set — something you don’t experience much at rock shows.” The Bay Bridged
