“Although this song was started years ago, it feels like it couldn’t be coming out at a better time. As our daily lifestyles adapt to the current state of the world, it seems to be the little things that mean the most right now. This song was originally written by Jon Bellion and when we first heard the song we felt a connection with it. We dove in on the original production and reworked some lyrics with Jon until everything felt right (if you listen closely you can hear some os his original vocal layers in the chorus, drop and beatbox). We sent it to Chelsea and Quinn, who have been friends and collaborators of ours for years. Having shared so many great memories on the road, in the studio, and in our daily lives, it felt right to have them deliver these words and this message. Opening with a kinetic piece of vocal percussion, “Little Things finds Quinn XCII and Cutler trading off verses and sharing their reflections on late-night trouble-making. As Louis The Child lay down an infectious beat, the sweet and shimmering track builds to an epic bridge offering a bit of warm-hearted wisdom: “Every single second is golden/Hold onto the moment.” This is not the first time the powerful combination of Quinn XCII and Chelsea Cutler’s vocals have come together with Louis The Child’s production. Louis The Child’s “Slow Down Love” with Chelsea Cutler was featured on their 2017 album Love is Alive and the duo’s synth-heavy track “The City” featuring Quinn XCII was released back in 2018.

“Little Things” follows Louis The Child’s recent single “Every Color,” a collaboration with beloved alt-pop band Foster The People. Released last month, “Every Color” was hailed as a “psychedelic dance-pop jam” by Billboard, who also highlighted its “sunny, electro-bass beat ready to soundtrack the trip from the drinks tent to the dance stage.”

The duo will be participating in the online music festival, Digital Mirage by Proximity and Brownies & Lemonade this Sunday, April 5. The event will donate 100% of proceeds to Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, which provides financial assistance to career musicians and music industry workers facing illness, disability, or age-related problems. Douglas Appling, the Portland-based electronic musician known to electronic music enthusiasts as Emancipator continues to refine and consolidate his creative ethos with the release of his sixth studio album Mountain Of Memory today (April 3) on Loci Records.

Recorded in his Mt. Hood, OR studio, 14 free-flowing tracks effortlessly encapsulate a variety of elements included in mid-tempo dance grooves, solid boom bap hip-hop beats and calm, reflective tempos blend with electric and acoustic guitars, classical violin, Persian dilruba, cimbaloms, finger snaps, symphonic strings, bubbling water, Latin and African hand drumming music boxes, Baroque flutes and opera singers, who add unexpected vocal ornamentations to accent melodic phrases.

Underlying it all, is the bed of sound Appling produces using electric pianos, ethereal synthesizer washes, processed and almost inaudible vocals, soothing ambient textures and the pulsing of an infinite heartbeat produced by electronic bass tones. “The album has a loose narrative of rising from the swamps, to the summit of a mountain, and the journey of enlightenment in between. By the end of the album, you are standing atop the Mountain of Memory.”

One of the leaders of international house music, Brooklyn-based BEDOUIN (Tamer Malki & Rami Abousabe) launch their new label Human By Default today, March 27 with the release of the Whistleman EP. It features three new original productions along with a bonus remix from Pablo Fierro.

The EP’s title track opens with smooth keys, shimmering percussion, a warming bassline and gorgeously delicate vocals that send you into aural bliss. “Firefly” swings with marimba samples, churning shakers and bubbly synth patterns until “Voodoo” rumbles with Afro-Cuban drums, exciting vocal work, Santur like pads and rolling electric stabs. Finally, multifaceted musician and producer Pablo Fierro provides his signature rhythm and shuffle to the “Whistleman” original with claves, rattling snares and a euphorically charged break.

Human By Default serves as a destination for Bedouin’s own original productions along with new music that they love by artists they meet along the road. “The name of the label serves as a reminder that being human is the only choice in life we don’t have the privilege of making. “We met Morgan in our first year in LA,” says Loud Luxury’s Andrew Fedyk of the track’s vocalist. “We got introduced oddly enough through BMI. We were on a ‘songwriter speed dating’ session and she came over to our apartment that we used to live at and we just hung out. The original song she wrote was a lot slower, but we took the idea with us on a trip to Jamaica and we were just really inspired by the music and the sounds and parties there. So we took the vocal and flipped it in order to bring completely new energy into it. That’s where the vibe of ‘Aftertaste’ comes from.”

It is the third offering following “Labyrinth” and “Iron Ox” from his upcoming sixth studio album Mountain of Memory due out April 3 on Loci Records. Mid-tempo dance grooves, solid boom-bap hip-hop beats, and calm, reflective tempos blend with electric and acoustic guitars, classical violin, Persian dilruba, cimbaloms, finger snaps, symphonic strings, bubbling water, Latin and African hand drumming, music boxes, Baroque flutes, and opera singers, who add unexpected vocal ornamentations to accent certain melodic phrases. Underlying it all is the bed of sound Appling produces using electric pianos, ethereal synthesizer washes, processed and almost inaudible vocals, soothing ambient textures and the pulsing of an infinite heartbeat produced by electronic bass tones.

Meanwhile, Emancipator Ensemble—who is Doug Appling (production/guitar) along with Ilya Goldberg (violin), Colby Buckler (drums), Mub Fractal (bass) and Asher Fulero (keys)—has announced new fall tour dates beginning September 23 in Minneapolis to support Mountain of Memory. Sizzling with dance floor attitude while capturing the raw, messy magic of falling in love, as told by singer and songwriter Anabel Englund, “Messing with Magic”—her song with collaborator, Jamie Jones is entrancing in its dichotomy: at times bright and carefree with Anabel’s authentic Southern California breeziness, and yet other times she is irresistibly alluring with a dark, smoldering touch alongside her imaginative production collaborator, Jamie Jones. The video, which was shot between downtown Los Angeles, a mirrored room and the high desert, captures Englund in a series of unique looks and marks the latest edition of iconic watch brand’s Bulova’s “History of Firsts” video campaign with Ultra Music.

Building on its own “History of Firsts,” Bulova is collaborating with Ultra and AREA 10 to follow select artists who are working together. From ‘behind the scenes’ uncovering their creative process of recording a song, to the artists’ official music video for that song, Bulova is capturing the journey.

The three-part video campaign launched in May with Ultra artist Betta Lemme pairing her with video director Dream Scientist for her newest single “PLAY”. The second installment of the series focused on SOFI TUKKER, teaming the duo with Latin icon Bomba Esthero for “Playa Grande.” Featured throughout you will find Bulova’s latest timepieces worn by artists, marking the iconic moment. The videos are released exclusively on Ultra Music’s YouTube channel, which has more than 18 million subscribers and over 10 billion music video views.

“Messing With Magic” serves as the title track for Englund’s debut EP Messing With Magic Area10/Ultra Music will release in 2020.
