Today, May 15, American electronic artist i_o launches AM 444, the third installment of his 444 album series with the release of “Annihilation.” The song—available now on mau5trap—features alt-pop artist Lights and currently sits at #2 on iTunes Electronic chart.

Named for an obscure New York City underground venue, i_o’s 444 is a three-part series of four tracks each as a nod to the number. Each segment of the project tells the story of the different areas of dance music that defines i_o as an artist. The first part—ACID 444 reflecting i_o’s warehouse roots was released late 2019 with its follow up, NRG 444 — a more aggressive, uptempo collection of tracks suited to be played during a peak hour main room techno set—arriving in early 2020. AM 444 finds Lights joining him on all tracks and represents i_o’s production skills on the more melodic and progressive side.

The original premise of AM 444 was based around the period of time around 4am when night would turn into day — before dawn. As the two artists worked, the idea changed with i_o and Lights creating a world of their own called EDEN with each artist representing a voice of a different standpoint. One making EDEN a digital paradise acting as a metaphor for escapism. The other an alternate consciousness in a dire world. Both in conflict between hope and despair which aligns with what much of the world is feeling right now during these changing times.

The song—co-penned by pop songwriters Melanie Fontana & Lindgren are most recently known for co-writing “Good In Bed” by Dua Lipa, as well as BTS “Boy Wit Luv” (featuring Halsey) and “Euphoria,” “Crown” by TXT and “Bon Bon Chocolat” by Everglow. Anabel Englund’s “So Hot” has hit #1 on the Dance Airplay charts it has reported this past Monday, May 11 by Mediabase and currently sits at #2 on the Billboard Dance/Mix Show chart.

Available on MK’s imprint AREA10/Ultra Music, “So Hot” is one of the special few #1 Dance Airplay songs to have been added to every station on the panel with support on the MK & Nightlapse Remix from iHeart Media’s Evolution, Music Choice Dance/EDM, Dance Factory 92.7 Chicago, Entercom’s Channel Q, Revolution 93.5 Miami, iHeart Media’s Pride Radio and C89.5 Seattle, while SiriusXM’s Chill channel supported the original version of the single. Diplo’s Revolution played an exclusive remix by KC Lights.

“I guess you could say that Mike Woods was one of my first influences in house music. I first saw him play when I was 15 or 16 at a nightclub in Warrington in the north of England called “the world” where he was playing all these hypnotic tracks, a sound I’d never heard before being so young and not really knowing what was going on. I head no idea that his music was going to be such a huge part of my life but I remember vividly my adoration of Mike playing and knowing I wanted to know more about what was going on here,” shares Doorly. “I moved away from Warrington soon after this having finished school and it wasn’t until years later that I met Mike again when we played together when I went back to play in Warrington. He started giving me these incredible demos and the man’s depth of knowledge of house and disco is second to none so it was a huge pleasure to release some records of his on Reptile Dysfunction and welcome him into our crew! This one ‘I’m In Love’ is by far his best yet and Gary Richards (aka DESTRUCTO) loved it as much as I did so we decided to co-release it to give it the audience it deserves. I often joke to Mike that I’ve got first dibs on buying his record collection when he retires, and the guy is a machine of a DJ so this will be a big year for Mike.”

About Mike Woods:
Mike started DJing in 1989 after being a regular at the legendary Hacienda club especially Park and Pickering’s Friday Nude night. After meeting another Hacienda DJ Steve Williams who also had a couple of sidekicks with Laurent Garnier and Sasha, it was Williams who introduced Woods to Eastern Bloc Records. Woods soon started to pick up his own collection of records and DJ local parties in his home town of Warrington. It was around 1989 that the Thunderdome opened in Manchester where he got to play a few Thursday nights and also later that year got to play local clubs in Warrington. The next logical progression was to get a Saturday night and that came in the shape of a club called Legends in Warrington where he became a resident from 1990-93’. It still stands out today with a unique music policy as it started around 90 bpm with a Balearic vibe and slowly built up to anything from deep house to Techno and even the odd disco track. It was also around 1990 that Mike produced his first record “Flashback — You,” a white label that was pressed up by himself. The next record produced was under the name BBR Streetgang, which was signed to Scottish label Hubba Hubba, and followed up with the United House EP—a reflection of the music policy at Legends with a disco sampled house feel and also a couple of downtempo tracks. BBR Streetgang went on to sign to Transworld Records, a subsidiary of Dead Dead Good Records, home to The Charlatans. BBR’s biggest hit followed in the shape of “Feel The Music.” Featured on some of the big compilation CD’s of the time, it was a disco-infused track which was played live in the studio and still sounds great today. Mike eventually left Legends in 1993 and was looking for something new and found that in the shape of the World club, again in Warrington and this is where Mike’s love of the disco sample was played out on his own productions in the studio with tracks like “Disco Groove,” also remixed by New York’s production team Roc & Kato, and in his sets with new music coming from the likes of DJ Sneak and G.U. and his love for the American sounds. Mike eventually had a family and settled down in Melbourne Australia but after ten years decided to make the move back to the U.K. in 2016 and also started to produce new material under his own name, releases for Masterworks, Reptile Dysfunction, and ALL MY FRIENDS to name a few.

Chicago-bred production duo Louis The Child have shared the timely and uplifting video for their recent single “Little Things,” a collaboration with Detroit singer/songwriter Quinn XCII and up-and-coming artist Chelsea Cutler which entered the Spotify US Viral Charts at #31. Directed by Stefano Bertelli from Italy in complete lockdown (a filmmaker who’s also worked with artists like lovelytheband, Coyu & Moby, and Robbie Williams), the animated visual delivers an emotionally powerful and incredible imaginative take on quarantine-style videos.

A brilliant work of paper-cutout stop-motion animation, the video for “Little Things” journeys through a city on lockdown, offering glimpses into the loneliness of life in self-quarantine. But as the sweet and shimmering song unfolds, bursts of sunshine and magically beaming rainbows bring in an undeniable sense of hope. Released earlier this month, “Little Things” was instantly praised by Dancing Astronaut as a “vibrant dance-pop smash." In creating the nostalgia-soaked duet, Louis The Child worked from a song initially penned by Jon Bellion, preserving some of the New York-bred singer/rapper/songwriter’s original vocals from their longtime friends Chelsa Cutler (who appeared on Louis The Child’s 2017 EP Love Is Alive), and Quinn XCII (who collaborated with the duo on their 2018 single “The City”), Louis The Child found new meaning in the song’s message of appreciation for life’s simplest moments.

“Although this song was started years ago, it feels like it couldn’t be coming out at a better time,” said Hauldren and Kennett. “As our daily lifestyles adapt to the current state of the world, it seems to be the little things that mean the most right now. Things that we may take for granted in our normal lives seem important and impactful now.”

As the entire nightlife industry faces unprecedented setbacks from the COVID-19 crisis with no end in sight, LA-based DJ/creatives Jasmine Solano & Patrick Struys have come together to create Club House. A global fundraiser and weekly live stream, the program was designed to aid the DJs, artists, restaurants, servers, bartenders, door people, crew and other personnel most affected by these difficult times. Club House takes place every Saturday at 2 pm PST in April.

The first Club House kicked off Saturday (April 4) at https://www.clubhouse-global.com/, featuring performances from DJ Puffy, Noodz, Riobamba, Khalil, and Club House co-founder Jasmine Solano. Upcoming Club Houses will feature Joe Kay, Walshy Fire (Major Lazer), Jubilee, Ms. Nix, Bvid, Y3lda and Tomi Tribe this Saturday, April 18; and A-Trak, Anthony Valadez, Vashtie, DJ Moma, Jasmine Solano and Madame Gandhi for a special Earth Night Edition on April 25. Club House is supported by lead sponsors Beats By Dre and DJ/production software company Serato, who are providing both product to participating talent and funds to support Club House programming and charitable contributions. A portion of proceeds from each Club House stream will be donated to lead charity partners MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund, benefitting musicians impacted by the global health crisis; the Winston House Creative Community Fund, which provides aid to music industry professionals; and the United States Bartenders Guild (USBG) National Charity Foundation, which supports bartenders and other nightlife workers.

Additional beneficiaries include human rights partner Reform L.A. Jails, as well as two partners for the April 25 Earth Day benefit: the Navajo Water Project’s Dig Deep Water and DJs for Climate Action. “In a nutshell, the coronavirus lit a fire under our ass,” says Jasmine Solano, a veteran DJ, on-camera/radio host and co-founder of Club House. “Even though DJing live individually (while promoting your own personal payment apps) is essential for most of us right now - we wanted to do something that benefited the collective whole. A platform where the local DJ can benefit just as much as the festival headliner.”

Adds Patrick Struys, photographer/DJ and co-founder of Club House: “I have been lucky to be on all sides of events from the DJ booth, documentation, production to behind the bar. It’s more than an industry, it’s a community and one which has been hit really hard by the impact of COVID-19. Our concept for Club House is to provide a platform to help organize that community, bring some joy to those at home and act as a springboard for causes & community funds. Connecting people and organizing has been life’s passion and I’m honored and excited to be a small part of helping support our community.”

Club House is also supported by executive producer Anjali Ramasunder, a social impact consultant who has led the development & partnership teams for some of the leading organizations in entertainment philosophy.

As hospitality and entertainment employees band together to create local and regional funds to protect the nightlife culture and community, Club House will seek to bring light. The MISINGO ensemble came together through their shared love of live performance when they met at various Aussie festivals. Could be short for Blue Screen of Death or Better Sounding on Drugs, BSOD is the electronic duo consisting of Joel Zimmerman (deadmau5, TESTPILOT) and Steve Duda. Today (April 10) they welcome a four-track EP titled No Way, Get Real on mau5trap.

The tracks on No Way, Get Real are just as catchy as their titles “Allpassing Lane,” “Afterburner,” “Fives” and “Pitches Love Me.” The four instrumentals range from infectious electro-disco funk to synth compositions worthy of the coolest video game.

BSOD first formed in 2005 as a joke between two friends. The pair topped Beatport charts with their first track “This Is The Hook,” a parody of popular dance music in 2006 and went on to release albums and EP’s such as Played Out, Pay Here To Click, Trap Me, and Last Life. No Way, Get Real is their first release in over six years.

Look for BSOD to reunite again for a select run of club shows later this year.

The original version of the song was released in spring 2019. “While SLANDER are typically known for dynamic and explosive bass music, their new collaboration with Said The Sky, aptly titled ‘Potions,’ demonstrates the even those with the toughest exterior can succumb to the ever-present human emotions of love, loss, longing,” wrote EDM.com. “Potions’ speaks to the nature of relationships ending, and the way in which each individual copes with the feelings of pain and loss. The potion offers a means to escape the ever-present pain, but it’s unclear if the escape is anything more than a convenient self-deception.”
